There’s so many rad people working their asses off making incredible things, it’s pretty overwhelming to consider sometimes, and gloriously inspiring.  It certainly stops me from sitting back on my ass and getting lazy.

Opening next week on the 7th (that’s the night before my new show opens just fyi) is Rowena Hughes‘ solo show, SOFT PARALLELS at ROOM gallery

If her recent Slade MFA show is any indication this’ll be a must see. The info you need - PV WEDNESDAY 7 SEPTEMBER  6.00-8.00PM
8 SEPTEMBER – 15 OCTOBER WEDNESDAY – SATURDAY 12 – 6 PM

My good pal and generally rad dude, AndreasLaszloKonrath, has updated his already sickeningly impressive website, get on it

my buddy Von, the boy whose drawing skill is all up in your grill has got some thrill on its way for you, so do what you should and keep those peepers peeled on Monday.  Also friends Dan Mumford & White Duck Screenprint have been flipping out some awesome collaborations of skillsets for you.

As for me, today I am bookbinding.

I’ve been kinda busy, in the studio, in the garden, on the computer, on the dancefloor, and there will be some proper interesting things to tell you about very soon.  In the meantime, lend your support to my inspiring friends Jess & Matt at Museums Press, they’re looking to open an art space/shop in Glasgow, which you’ll agree is a darn fine idea from darn fine people.  Take part, help out

furniture

Posted in exhibitions, friends, furniture by R. M. Phoenix on 07/07/2011

For years I’ve considered giving up Art to study carpentry and more recently my interest in making furniture has increased considerably.  Inspired by the story of Dick Proenneke, that I’ve been learning about with my PIU comrades, who built what he needed from what was at hand, and the work of Roy McMakin and Donald Judd, who built his own furniture when he moved to a house in West Texas where there was none and none to be bought, and the ever growing pile of found wood in my studio; over the past couple weeks I’ve started to build my own furniture.

the table you see here was partly built from a door I found during my recent trip to Berlin, and here’s the moment I found it…

the other half of the door I used to make this coffee table….

which, when the final coats of paint have dried, I’m going to carry over to the other side of London to be part of the new exhibition opening tonight at ANDOR gallery – http://www.creativeandorcultural.com/index.php/current-exhibitionwho by the way have opened in a new space and are involved in putting on some very exciting things, while serving very excellent coffee and almond croissants, you can reliably find me there every Sunday morning before I go to work on Broadway Market.  Tonight is also the opening of the StolenSpace Summer Show where you can gander at work from the always excellent Chloe, Von, Jake Wood-Evans & Arth Daniels, among others, see you there yes?

And while we’re on the subject of furniture I have just one more thing to say, and it is this…
